How is someone admitted to the F.J. Davey Home?
To apply for placement in the Davey Home you must contact the North East Community Care Access Centre (NE CCAC) located in Sault Ste. Marie.  This service manages and co-ordinates all placements in Long-Term Care Homes for this area.  They may be contacted at (705) 949-1650.

A tour of the facility is conducted on the third Tuesday and first Thursday of each month.  Please contact Carey Smith at (705) 942-2204 ext. 232 to make arrangements.

Upon admission to the facility, staff from different departments will meet with the resident and their family to gather relevant information.  This helps staff become familiar with the resident’s preferences and offers the resident an opportunity to familiarize themselves with those who will be most involved in their care.

On the day of admission family are encouraged to stay and help the resident to get organized and comfortable.

How much does it cost to live at the F.J. Davey Home?
There is a set cost determined by the Ministry of Health.  All residents are expected to pay the maximum basic rate.  Rates normally are adjusted on July 1st of each year based on Ministry direction but may change at any time subject to such direction.  Rates at July 1, 2009 for accommodation are set out below:

Accommodation Rates

Room Type Cost/Month Cost/Day
Private $2,161.71 $71.07
Semi-Private $1,857.55 $61.07

2 - Bed Ward Basic Rate Range:
Maximum $1,614.21 $53.07
Minimum $1,050.29 $34.53

* Your rate may change if your income changes or by Provincial Regulations.

* Monthly figures are based on each month having 30.4167 days.

Lack of funds will never prevent a person from being admitted to the Davey Home.  Based upon completion of a Rate Reduction Application, Government funds are made available to pay for the portion of the cost that the resident cannot pay. This application is completed by the Business Office upon your request.  If you are requesting a rate reduction, you will need to provide the Davey Home with your previous years Notice of Assessment from Revenue Canada (Income Tax Summary).  Completion of this application must be repeated each year.

What is provided in each resident’s room?
Each resident’s room is furnished with a bed, night table, wardrobe, chair and tv stand.  All bedding and linen is supplied including mattress, pillow, bedspread and window treatments.  For more detail on what is and is not included in accommodation cost refer to (link to Finance section Accommodation “Included and not included” section)

What can I bring?
The Davey Home’s philosophy is that the resident will feel more comfortable in making this their home if they are able to bring some of their familiar belongings such as pictures, mementos etc.  Display shelves, memory boxes and TV stands have been designed for each resident to display their items.  Larger items such as chairs, electronics, personal quilts or bedspreads can be brought in subject to meeting specified criteria and in keeping with the safety requirements of the nursing and housekeeping staff.

Storage for personal items is available in each resident’s personal wardrobe and cabinets provided in their room.  Residents may choose to rent a Personal Safe for storage of valuables.
